Party season is well and truly here, and finger food is the way to go for cocktail parties and informal get-togethers. Rather than serve chips, nuts, dips and crackers, why not put together a few easy canapés that will be sure to impress your guests? Here are 5 ideas for canapés that can be put together in minutes:

Stuffed mushrooms
Remove the stems from the mushrooms, brush all over with olive oil and fill with your favourite cheese (crumbled or grated). Bake at 190°C for 10 minutes.

Roast Beef and Horseradish Cups
Fill pre-bought pastry cases with sour cream mixed with horseradish and chives, topped with rare roast beef & garnished with a watercress sprig.

Peking Chicken on Witlof
Mix shredded cooked chicken with hoisin sauce and sliced shallots. Serve in witlof leaves.

Smoked trout on cucumber cups
Slice a telegraph cucumber into 1cm slices, top with crème fraiche mixed with a little grated lemon rind, some flaked trout and sprig of dill.

Asparagus with Prosciutto
Wrap asparagus spears with slices of prosciutto halved lengthways. Spray or brush with olive oil and BBQ or pan-fry for 3-4 minutes.
